Issue d’une photographie prise sur la porte d’une ancienne cellule de prison, derrière le Palais des Papes à Avignon, cette toile transpose une trace gravée dans la matière en un signe pictural puissant. Probablement incisée par la pointe d’un geôlier, la marque brute devient ici symbole de mémoire, empreinte d’un passé à la fois intime et collectif.
Le vert originel du support, conservé tel quel, et la lumière naturelle au centre orientent le regard vers l’essentiel : ce signe rouge qui surgit comme une cicatrice dans la surface. Entre abstraction et témoignage, l’œuvre évoque à la fois la fragilité des vies enfermées et la permanence des traces laissées par l’histoire.
« Mémoire » est une invitation à regarder autrement : voir dans l’usure, dans la griffure, dans l’accident de matière, la possibilité d’un récit universel.

Based on a photograph taken of the door of a former prison cell behind the Palais des Papes in Avignon, this painting transforms a mark carved into the surface into a powerful pictorial sign. Probably incised by the point of a jailer’s tool, the raw trace becomes here a symbol of memory, the imprint of a past both intimate and collective.
The original green of the surface, preserved as it was, and the natural light at the center guide the eye toward the essential: this red sign that emerges like a scar across the canvas. Between abstraction and testimony, the work evokes both the fragility of lives once confined and the permanence of the traces left by history.
« Mémoire » is an invitation to look differently: to see in wear, in scratches, in the accidents of matter, the possibility of a universal narrative.
